General Questions
- How is your modem connected to you computer (Internal, External USB / Serial / Cat5)
- Is the Modem Connected to the wall Currently
- Is there a phone with a Dial tone on the same line?
- Have you called your ISP? (Internet Service Provider)
- If the Modem Connects
- Try the Direct Dial Feature from the Gateway CD then
- Continue to Dale*s Not-Work Troubleshooter for Internet Networks
Quick Fix
- Make sure there is only one modem in Device manager (standard modems don*t always work.) Especially if it is conflicting with the real modem.
Reinstall the Modem Driver
- Use the Dale*s Driver Uninstall and Reinstall Document
Try the Direct Dial Feature from the Gateway CD
- Put the [Red Drivers Disk, System Restoration Kit Disk 1, System Restoration Disk] Into the CD-Rom drived
- Start the CD By:
- Autorun
- Double Clicking it in "My Computer"
- Starting the "RunMenu.exe" file by browsing for it in "Run" or "My Computer"
- Press OK on the License Agreement if present
- Select the [Web Updates Tab, Support and updates menu (up with the file menu)]
- Choose the "Update Now Option"
- It will say you clicked an Internet Link
- Select Direct Dial
- This may prompt you to set up the Modem then Attempt to Dial
- This may Attempt to Dial and
- If this Succeeds Send to the ISP, Our Dial up connection works It is a problem with the Dial up provider (Software or Dialup Server)
- You will get the same error that was Previously Received
Check to see that the Modem is Functioning
- Check to see if you can hear the modem picking up the line while you are on the phone
- If the Modem Picks up or picks up and dials, the Modem should be working
The Modem Still Doesn*t work
- The Modem isn*t connected
- There is a Power Strip or other device between the Wall and the Computer
- The Line between the Wall and the Phone is Faulty
- There is actually no Dial Tone at the Modem
- The Modem needs to be replaced
